August 18 — The “P” Word

This week I learned a lot about perfection. In 3 Nephi the Lord says, “Therefore I would that ye should be perfect even as I, or your father in heaven is perfect.” So Christ is commanding us to be perfect! Which means that perfection IS, in fact, possible. However, what I have learned this week is that, perfection is not possible until the next life and only through the grace and mercy of the atonement!
This might shock you, but there is no such things as a perfect person, family, lesson, investigator, companion, look, body, exc.. We can not demand perfection from ourselves! And guess what, the Lord does not expect you to be perfect right here, right now. D&C says “and he received not of the fullness at first but continued from grace to grace, until he received a fullness.” Each one of us learns precept by precept, line upon line.
I received a letter this week from a wonderful RM from home! In her inspired letter she explained how “sometimes we expect ourselves to be perfect right now when we should simply be happy to be standing facing the right direction.” These words of advise have proved true to me this past week more than ever before. This life is the time to prepare to meet God. We are going to fall short and we are going to mess up. So don’t compare yourselves to others and don’t demand from yourself the impossible. Instead, demand improvement and demand happiness!
In the end we WILL fall short, but it is ONLY through the grace of our Savior and His Atonement that will get us through. Perfection is only possible through Christ. “Come unto Christ and be perfected in Him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness.” (Moroni 10:32)
Love you all and all of your imperfections!
Keep on smiling!
